Femara (aka Letrozole) is a drug that belongs to a class of aromatase inhibitors. Initially its application was the treatment of breast cancer and infertility in women. However, it found its place in sports pharmacology and eventually became one of the most popular non-steroid drugs among athletes.
Since aromatase is an enzyme, which converts testosterone into estrogens, by blocking aromatase Femara decreases the levels of estrogen and increases the levels of testosterone at the same time. Besides it increases the levels of gonadotropic hormones.
Femara in bodybuilding
In bodybuilding Letrozole is used for:
- Treatment and prevention of gynecomastia
- Increasing the levels of anabolic hormones
- Decreasing the levels of estrogens
- Prevention of hypertension
- Improvement of quality of muscles
How to use Letrozole
Simultaneous use of Letrozole with steroids can increase their efficiency. If you take easily aromatizable steroids, such as Testosterone or Dianabol, you should take Letrozole in order to prevent gynecomastia and water retention.
The lowest effective dose for prevention of gynecomastia is 0.5 mg (1/5 tablet) every other day. During heavy steroid cycle or for treatment of gynecomastia take 2.5 mg (1 tablet) every day until the symptoms disappear, then 0.5 mg every other day.
It is advisable to do estradiol tests before Femara usage, and only then adjust the dose. However, you can adjust the dose of Letrozole according to subjective feelings. If you have decreased libido, erectile dysfunction and depression, then you should reduce the dose.
Men with testosterone deficiency take Letrozole in order to increase the levels of testosterone. As we mentioned above, by suppressing aromatase enzyme, the drug prevents transformation of Testosterone into estradiol, thereby raising its levels in the body.
While taking Femara remember that estrogens play important biological functions in male body, which include immunity, muscle growth, regulation of cholesterol levels and so on. Therefore, excessive suppression of estrogens can be harmful to your health.
